Once you download the assignment, you will find 3 folders:
Part I
Part II
Templates - guidelines
The first two folders contain two assignments. In Part I you need to digitalize an existing floorplan. In Part II you need to correct an existing floorplan. In the third folder you will find templates and elements that you will need for finalising the floorplans in Illustrator.
On this page you will also find a video tutorial on how to apply the elements in Illustrator and a renaming instruction that you will need to follow when doing the assignments.

General info for the floorplan assignment
Consider the proportions of the room, the distance between the object and the walls, and be precise with the direction the doors are opening. Add all wall indents, columns and partial walls.
The orientation of all the floors must be matching: we should have the same type of stairways in all floors. Once you are done with all the corrections, go to the exterior pictures and make sure windows, doors and the general shape is making sense.
We only build the structure of the property and not add any furniture or appliances, we also do not need exact measurements but the shape of the rooms and floors has to be as exact and proportionate as possible.
Part I: digitalizing a floorplan
Open Magic Plan App, go to New plan > New room > Import and draw > choose a floor number and take a picture of the original floor plan we provided with your device. Now you can sketch the plan over the picture, and hide it when you export.
Rename the rooms according to the list below at this page. All the names must be in German, only use the approved names from the list.
Export the plan with the room names in German (Export > Show all room names / No dimensions) and go to the Cloud.
Enter the plan, go to Export > Download > Download the pdf > Save the file and open it in Illustrator.
Edit your floor plan in Illustrator (use the tutorial video above).
Save 1 illustrator file (*.ai) and 2 *.jpg files per floor.
Part II: correcting an existing floorplan
For the second task you need to check that the floor plan provided is accurate by using the pictures of the property and a video walk- through, make corrections when needed and edit the final result.
Import the floor plan pdf into Illustrator, you can make the corrections directly in the software.
Start with the video of the property to make sure the structure of the plan is more or less correct, you can set the speed to 50% to be able to catch more details.
Use the photos to make the corrections, check what type of windows, doors and stairways we need to have in the plan. Make all the doors in the same size and try to be as accurate as possible when placing doors and windows in the rooms. You can find all doors, windows and stairways in our vector library (you have downloaded with the assignment), choose and replace the elements you need from this file.
Name the rooms in the floorplan according to the names the photographer used for the pictures. Pay special attention to those rooms that are repeated in the same floor and must be numbered accordingly (Schlafzimmer 1, Schlafzimmer 2, etc). All the names must be in German, check our list with approved names above: we must only use these.
